Mentawai Adventure is an independent planning guide to surf trips and adventure travel in the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, Indonesia. It is written by the Mentawai Adventure Editorial Team. We do not own or operate boats, camps or resorts; we publish practical guides and, on request, help travellers compare options and connect with operators.
What this site is
The Mentawai Islands are remote, the waves are mostly over shallow reef, and the logistics from Padang decide how much of your trip you actually spend surfing. This site exists to make those decisions easier. Start with the Mentawai surf trip planning guide, then go deeper by wave, by island or by type of traveller.

What we do not do
- We do not run trips, own boats or manage accommodation.
- We do not publish star ratings, reviews, testimonials or “best operator” rankings.
- We do not quote fixed prices. Where we mention money, it is a range taken from published listings, and the operator’s written quote is what counts.
- We do not accept payments for bookings on this website.
How the guides are researched
Each guide is written and checked by the Mentawai Adventure Editorial Team. Facts such as transfer routes, seasons, visa rules and health advice are checked against published sources, including official immigration and travel-health websites where they exist, and against operators’ own published information. Seasons are described as probabilities, not promises, because swell and wind change every year. Every page shows the month it was last updated, and we revise guides when rules or routes change.
How the planning desk works
If you message us, the planning desk reads your dates, surf level, group and budget, replies with practical advice and, if you want, introduces you to operators whose trips fit. Corrections
